Our Flag Was Still There

By: Tim Deputy

The day started bright, fresh, beautiful and new

The people were all smiles though there was work to do

Suddenly terror rained down from the sky

Then they ran and they died and we all wondered why

Heroes leapt forth when they heard all the cries

From that horrible terror that fell from the skies

They rescued us all as their stories were told

They pulled us all back from the fear and the cold

They strengthened our will, those heroes who died

And the whole world as one saw the dead and we cried

Some cried in sorrow for the souls that were lost

They cherished their freedom but oh what a cost

Some cried out with joy, quickly changing to despair

For when the dust settled, our flag was still there
