When I was trying to prepare to go to NMPS for processing I discovered a distinct lack of information available on what to do, what to bring, etc. Below I will list some of the things I wish I'd known before I arrived, and some of the things that kept me out of trouble. If you're getting ready to mobilize, I hope you find them useful.

Things you should know before NMPS:

  •  Be in shape - Begin exercising now, you will be doing PT
  •  Get an audiogram done through your NOSC. NMPS requires one within the last year and you do not want to be in line behind 400 other people
  •  If you have BDUs or DCUs bring them, especially in the summer. Most of the areas where you will be do not have AC and you WILL be hot and sweaty
  •  Verify with your NOSC that all of your shots are up to date. You do not want to have to get 6 shots all at once. Believe me it sucks. . . a lot
  •  Get your wills and powers of attorney done BEFORE you leave for NMPS. Again, you do not want to be in line behind 400 other people
  •  Verify your Page 2 and SGLI are correct at your NOSC
  •  One thing that helped me a great deal was to download the IA checklist from NKO and make sure you have everything it says. It will help you avoid a lot of problems and long lines
  •  Download the IA checklist from NKO. Yes, it is important enough to say twice and bigger. Make sure you have and do everything it says. Why are you still reading this instead of downloading?
